Travel and Tourism
Working in the travel and tourism industry is never dull but you need to have the enthusiasm, stamina and personality to benefit from all the opportunities it offers.
You will be provided with the necessary skills and confidence to handle a wide range of situations - from difficult customers to real emergencies. There are numerous career opportunities including airline and airport management, retail/business travel, event management, working as a holiday representative, working on cruise ships, entertaining children and working within the hotel and hospitality sector.
You will also be given the chance to experience the sector hands-on with visits to attractions and exhibitions, and overseas residential study in each year of your course. You might plan activities with children, relay information to customers whilst overseas, including Spain, visit hotels to see how high quality service is provided to customers or plan and book airline seats and hotel accommodation.
Your course will deliver the important basic knowledge needed to operate within a travel and tourism environment. However, we also investigate many specialist areas which will give you an idea as to whether a particular sector of the industry, such as those above, is the one you wish to pursue for your career.
You may also consider progressing on to degree courses in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Airline and Airport Management, Events Management or Business and Marketing.

Travel and Tourism Level 1 Foundation Pathway
Why this course?
I had just moved back from Zambia and went to Reading College because I really wanted to study travel and tourism. I learnt a lot about cabin crew and customer service which was my favourite topic. I really enjoyed my time there, I made new friends and the teachers were great.
What next?
I have enrolled Reading Girls’ School through Reading College and am currently studying Travel and Tourism BTEC Level 2 Diploma. One day I want to travel the world and work for a charity in a third world country.
