Staying in education until 18

Staying in education until 18

Want to leave school at 16? You can!

The government has increased the age to which all young people in England must continue in education or training.

Raising the Participation Age (RPA) means that pupils who started in Year 11 in September 2013 need to continue in education or training until at least their 18th birthday.

So, you have more options to consider. You can:

  • stay in full-time education at school or college
  • study/train part time if you are working/volunteering for 20 hours a week or more
  • start an apprenticeship [1]

The point is, you don’t have to stay at school. You have options. To explore them all, come and talk to us.
