English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
Full-time EFL courses
The EFL courses combine general English with study skills and academic English. Students also take part in Options classes and can choose from Art and Design, Business English, Drama, IELTS or Speaking and Listening workshops (the number of classes depends on high enough numbers of students).
Classes include ICT sessions and students have free access to IT in their free time. These courses are ideal for students wishing to progress quickly and who are learning English to go on to university, for career purposes or who wish to build their knowledge and skills in the English Language.
Part-time EFL courses
The part-time EFL courses at the college are aimed at students who have busy working lives, but who need to improve their language skills to advance their careers or progress on to further academic studies.
We have classes from intermediate to proficiency level, and students can choose to do a general English class, study for a professional qualification, or take a class that focuses on a particular set of skills.
All groups complete a portfolio of work, based upon the Council of Europe's language portfolio scheme. Over the course of the academic year, you will build up a body of work, covering all the skills, which will show how you have progressed and how well you can use English.
Students on the exam module courses also have the opportunity to do the internationally-recognised Cambridge PET, FCE, CAE and CPE examinations.
Classes take place twice a week, in the mornings (9.30am - 1pm) or in the evenings (7pm - 9pm).
