Reading College Basketball Academy graduate signs professional contract
After 4 years of training and playing with Reading Rockets, Harrison Gamble has started to fulfil his career dreams after landing a professional contract with Girona Basketball club in Spain.
After attending Reading College Basketball Academy for 2 years and graduating in 2010, Harrison was selected to join the GB u20 team.
During his 2 years with the academy, he helped the Rockets u18s become one of the top teams in the country, helped the academy team gain national recognition and started to attract professional attention from further afield.
Whilst simultaneously balancing commitments to the u18s, Mens Division 1, studying Sports Performance and Excellence BTEC Level 3 and employment at Foxhills leisure club in Woking, Harrison managed to keep up the level of training required to be noticed by international scouts and after much thinking and negotiating has taken the leap into a fully professional basketball career.
Director of Basketball at Reading College Matt Johnson said "We are fully behind Harrison, Girona are getting a fantastic young man who has worked very hard to reach this point in his basketball and I am sure he will go on from there to become an excellent professional."
"At the Rockets we are fully committed to the development of our young players and are thrilled when young players that have come through our Reading College academy programme take the next step into making basketball a real career choice. Harrison represents our club and his college very well and we are all very proud to call him a Rocket."
Harrison said "I owe a lot to the people around me who made it possible to balance my sport and education. Reading College and the Rockets have been fantastic."
