Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 July saw the nationwide Olympic Torch relay come through Reading.

It was greeted with a huge turnout as many locals came to support the runners and cheer the torch, showing Reading’s truly positive attitude despite determined drizzle.

The best turnout came at the Riverside in The Oracle shopping centre, however the torch made good progress around Reading, passing areas such as the University of Reading campus, Reading Girl’s School and Caversham Court Gardens.

Reading College students good involved in the celebrations, with Performing Arts students performing in the ‘Tree of Light’ show at the Madejski Stadium. This performance was in celebration of the Olympic Torch lighting the cauldron inside the stadium, and ended the torch’s tour for the day.

We hope that everyone got a chance to see the torch as it produced some unforgettable moments.
