Build a Barracks

For the final element of their Developing Teams module, Business BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma students were set a brief by the Army yesterday (Wednesday 6 December) to put together business proposals to bid for a fictitious contract to build a barracks for one of the Army’s main regiments.
Students had to take on the roles of Team Leader, Finance Manager, Public Relations Manager and Creative Manager, in order to put together a successful bid in just four hours. They had to include a business plan, press release, pitch and designs for the new barracks, fully justifying their decisions and budgets.
John Oakley, Business and ICT Programme Manager said, “This was the culmination of a term’s activity in teamwork theory, which has seen students learn and develop theory, and participate in a leadership Outward Bound course. Having a business problem to solve from the Army is an excellent exercise to finish off the term”.
