Hairdressing students at City of Oxford and Reading College have competed in regional competitions with great success.
The first of the two competitions was Wella Xposure. Toktam Heirani Moghaddam, a Level 3 Hairdressing student last year, entered the Photographic Hair Category of the Wella 2017 competition and had Rachel Uttley, a Level 1 student at the time, as a model. Toktam managed to get through to the Midlands Regional Heat on Wednesday 26 April with her piece. This is the first time that City of Oxford College has seen a student go through to the regional finals.
Toktam said, “I was really nervous at first but the experience was wonderful and a great chance to show of the skills I’ve learnt”
The second competition was the Inspire Young People - Hairdressing Photography Competition, designed by Errol Douglas MBE. This was the first time that hairdressing at Reading and Oxford has been involved with an Inspire Competition.
There were over 80 entries from colleges including, Aylesbury, Amersham and Wycombe and East Berkshire. Toktam entered the Women’s Advanced Category, coming first at the final on Monday 12 June at Aylesbury College. Angela Foster came 2nd, while Amir Azad and Laura Hopkins were also finalists in this category. Juanita Navarro Pineda was a finalist for the Gentlemen’s category.
Level 1 Hairdressing students at Reading; Lauren Hines, Megan Tuggey and Ella Trotman were finalists in the Women’s Intermediate Category with Ella coming first place.
Toktam’s prize for winning the competition is to spend a day with Errol Douglas MBE, who was nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year for 19 successive years.
