Meet some of our international students at Reading College...
Kavitha Elanganathan

My family arrived in the UK from Sri Lanka five years ago. The teachers at the college have really helped me with my studies and I've made some good friends at the college that have helped me settle in. The encouragement I've received has helped me develop and I've really benefited from the college's training and volunteer scheme. I have become a student mentor and Red Cross volunteer. Last year I achieved C grades in my AS level subjects and A level Biology. I am now in my final year of A levels, studying Chemistry, Mathematics and the AQA Baccalaureate after which I plan to go to university next year. Recently Sandhya and I both received Diana Awards for our voluntary work which was a real honour.

During the three years since I've arrived from Nepal, I feel as though I've achieved so much. The staff and students at the college have really helped me and I gained the highest possible grade of A* in two of my A levels, plus two A grades. I never dreamed of getting such grades and I'm now on track to study medicine once I've completed my AQA Baccalaureate. I've become involved in volunteering and this has helped me develop. The college has supported my voluntary work and I'm sure that helping at the local hospital and spending time with patients will help with my future career.

I’m from China and I’m going to study Business at university. First I need to get my English to a higher level, so it’s great that at Reading College you can join their English as a Foreign Language English course at a time of the year that suits you. I’m really pleased I chose Reading College as it’s so near London and Oxford and other fantastic places, and we’ve done lots of trips to them as part of our study. I’m really enjoying the course as I’ve made good friends with international students from different countries, the teachers are always very helpful and I like the computing and library facilities.

I’m in English as a Foreign Language class. The teachers care about us and they make sure we are in the right level class. The books and materials we use are really interesting. I’ve come from Vietnam to get my English up to IELTS 6.0 before doing a degree in the UK. I’m really enjoying Reading College as I’m making good progress, and I can speak a lot with the students from other countries in the world that I’ve made friends with.

It’s very important to be able to speak and read English in Saudi Arabia so I’m happy I have come to England to study it. I’m especially glad I chose the English as a Foreign Language course at Reading College as I enjoy lots of things about it like the interesting books we use and the teachers, who are really good as well as being helpful and nice. I feel happy here.

I’m from Iran and I’d like to study for a degree in Engineering later. First I am doing an English language course at Reading College then I’ll stay at this college to do my A levels in Maths and Physics before going on to university. What I enjoy is that we have a friendly atmosphere and very good teachers.
