What do I learn?
In addition to gaining valuable work experience you will learn a range of skills and techniques required in hairdressing. You will study essential modules including Health and Safety in the salon, promoting products and services, and consulting with and advising the client. Then you will study modules giving you skills including: cutting women’s hair to create a variety of looks, styling women’s hair using a variety of techniques, colouring and perming hair and creative hairdressing design skills. You will develop your skills in creative hairdressing to suit a variety of events and occasions - dressing long hair into a variety of upswept styles incorporating augmentation, false hair and hair extensions. You will learn various techniques of application of colour to create a variety of looks which will enhance modern hair cutting and styling. You will prepare yourself for operating a business to include stock control, stock management, budget, and employee rights and responsibilities. You will also learn how to supervise and maintain a safe working environment.
You will be continuously assessed and this will be validated by internal and external verifiers. There will also be timed assessments. Your work placement will provide learning in a work situation. Two days a week will be work placement for the whole of the course and assessments take place in the salons and placements are monitored.
What do I gain?
Many of our students find permanent employment on successful completion of the course. Alternatively you can go on to further studies. There is a high success rate into employment and hairdressing is a portable career.
What do I need?
You will need a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing. You will be interviewed and have a practical skills assessment.
What can I do next?
You could progress to employment or further study in other areas such as complementary therapy or beauty therapy.
What else do I need to know?
The fee for international students for the 2016 entrance is £6,300 per year.
