What do I learn?
You will study seven different units:
• Word processing software
• Time management
• Preparing for a career in the health and social care professions
• Ethical issues in health care
• Introduction to psychology
• Understanding health and safety in health and social care settings
• Introduction to human physiology for health care
The course is taught through a combination of lectures, group work and independent learning activities.
You will also have the opportunity to take English and Maths GCSE as part of the course.
What do I gain?
With hard work, commitment and determination you will gain an English and maths qualification and a Certificate in Health and Social Care Professions.
The course is taught by experienced subject specialists. You will have access to our Library.
You will be guaranteed an interview for the Access to Higher Education Diploma.
What do I need?
A willingness to learn and motivation to succeed.
Ideally you need to have completed Level 1 English and be working towards Level 2 English, but you will be assessed as part of the recruitment process if you do not have these qualifications already.
What can I do next?
Past students have moved on to the Access to Higher Education Diploma and progressed to university or into employment.
What else do I need to know?
Once you have applied you will be invited to an assessment session which will include some careers guidance and information about going to university as well as English and Maths assessments.
The course will run over two days between 9am and 5pm. Exact days will be confirmed in the summer term. A part-time evening option is also available.
