Hairdressing Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

This advanced-level apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who have already completed a Level 2 NVQ in Hairdressing and want to progress from a junior stylist to a fully operational stylist in the salon without supervision.

What do I learn?
You gain a broader base of knowledge and experience to prepare you for working within the hair and beauty industry as a more senior stylist. The elements of the apprenticeship programme are:
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
• Functional Skills in English and Maths Level 2
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities

You will need to pass all elements to gain your qualification.

Throughout the programme you will attend college and work in a professional environment, or just complete the course in the work place. The delivery will be discussed with the employer to see which is most beneficial to them.

All aspects of training are carried out in college. Teaching takes place in both the classroom and the salons. You then take the skills you have learned at college out to the workplace and are expected to bring in work-based evidence and build a portfolio to support this. An assessor will visit your work place to observe your working practices.

As an advanced apprentice, you take your learning a step further. You develop your cutting and colouring skills so you can carry out all the latest fashion techniques – and maybe even determine the fashion looks of the future.

Apprenticeships are designed to let you benefit from real life work experience which you will get day-to-day on the job. This experience is supported by theoretical that you will study. Your assessments are carried out by a qualified and trade competent assessor who will help support you and your employer in achieving your qualification. The Functional Skills are assessed by exam.
What do I gain?
An apprenticeship is made up of an NVQ qualification as well as functional skills. You gain a recognised qualification while gaining valuable work experience.
What do I need?
You must be in employment in the relevant occupation for a minimum of 30 hours per week (or 16 hours per week in exceptional circumstances) to gain a place on one of our apprenticeship programmes. Your employer will need to agree to you becoming an apprentice as these are work-based qualifications and you will have to attend college.

Upon application you will be invited in for an interview and an initial assessment to make sure that the course is right for you. There are no other restrictions to becoming an apprentice except that you need to be over the age of 16 and to have been settled in the UK for at least the past three years.
What can I do next?
On successful completion you will be a hairdresser or stylist.
What else do I need to know?
On this apprenticeship you’ll spend a lot of time on your feet. It’s important that you look smart and have a good hairstyle!

Good communication plays a role too – you’ll need to understand exactly what your customer wants in order to make them happy.
