Construction and the built environment

The construction and built environment sector covers a wide range of work.
At a professional and technician level, people are involved in planning, design, surveying, inspection and project management. At craft level, there are many different skilled trades, from bricklaying to scaffolding, plastering and roofing. Some jobs are concerned with the construction of new buildings and others with the renovation, repair and maintenance of existing buildings.
Do you want the right skills for a job in construction or the built environment? Our courses are recognised by employers and can give you a start in bricklaying, carpentry, painting and decorating, plastering or tiling.
If you want to learn while in a job, we offer Apprenticeships across the construction, engineering and motor vehicle trades.
All our courses are taught in purpose built workshops, with industry-standard equipment and are led by tutors who have industry experience. Learning in this realistic working environment helps you gain the practical skills along and the technical knowledge that the industry demands. We are forming strong links with local employers and businesses providing opportunities for students to progress in their careers.

Case Study
Adam Marriot
Brickwork Level 1
Why this course?
I wanted to have a change from school and also learn a trade so that I could start working as soon as possible. I really enjoy the course and am learning a lot. I knew some of the people on the course already and have made new friends as well. The teachers are all really good and helpful. I like the fact that we are treated like adults and have more responsibility than at school.
What next?
I have been accepted on an Apprenticeship which will get me qualified to Level 2. Eventually I’d like to start my own bricklaying business.
