We are delighted to announce that former Reading College student Neil Cooper who completed his Bench Joinery Level 2 Apprenticeship last June was one of the winners of the Institute of Carpenters, Carpenters’ Craft Competition.

The Carpenters' Craft Competition is the only national competition open to students of carpentry, joinery and shop fitting and gives outstanding students the chance to showcase their work and have it judged by leaders in the field.

Neil was back at the college to be presented his prize yesterday by Regional Chairmen of the Institute, Trevor Greaves. Neil came fifth overall out of 80 colleges that participated.

Neil said, “I am surprised and pleased to be one of the winners of this competition, it’s good to get the encouragement from staff at the college to enter competitions like this and it’s also great to have on your CV for the future.”

Lecturers at Reading College frequently encourage their students to enter competitions such as this, which often gives students a head start in their chosen vocation and boosts confidence in their abilities and skills.
